Speed For Sport — Privacy Policy

Speed For Sport ("we", "us") is a youth sprint-coaching programme founded by Tim Abeyie. This policy explains what the Speed For Sport app collects, how it is used, and the choices you (and, where a parent or guardian has to agree, they) have. We keep it short and honest.

Who can use the app

Speed For Sport is for athletes aged 13 and over. Sign-up asks your date of birth; under-13s cannot create an account. Where the law where you live sets a higher age of digital consent, we ask for a parent or guardian's email and send them one link to confirm; until they do, you can record runs but you are not shown on leaderboards or in the community. We keep the parent's email address and the date they confirmed, declined or withdrew.

What we collect

• Account details — your name, email address and date of birth. You sign in with Google, Apple or an email address and password. Sign in with Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email; that is fine. Your profile picture is a preset icon we assign; the only real photo is a selfie you can choose to take live in the app, which earns a verified tick.
• Optional profile details — school (used only as a leaderboard filter), sex, sports, height (sharpens the speed estimate) and the country your phone reports.
• Training data — for every AI-scored run we store the measurements the app derived from the camera (joint positions frame by frame, speed and distance estimates), the score and coaching feedback, and your personal bests and improvement. These numbers are sent to our scoring service, which uses Anthropic's Claude model to write the feedback.
• Camera & video — the app records your sprint with the camera and analyses it on your device. Sprint recordings are silent. The video itself is kept only if you switch on run-video saving (see below).
• Community and messages — posts, comments, reactions and any photo or video you choose to share in the community; your messages with the coaching desk; a message you send to a coach in the Coaches directory (they receive your first name and surname initial and your message, never your email address).
• Challenges — when you challenge another athlete or accept a challenge, you each see the other's leaderboard name, top speed and score for that race, and your record against each other.
• Membership and orders — whether you hold a membership, bought through the App Store or Google Play (they handle payment; we never see your card), any ad-free time you have earned, and any shop order or coaching request you place in the app. Referral codes and who joined with yours.
• Video reviews (over-18s only) — an optional short front-camera video review of the app, with sound. You watch it back and agree, in wording we store with the date, to it being shared publicly to promote Speed For Sport. Review videos are deleted after 365 days; you can withdraw a review in Settings at any time.
• Notifications — a device token and app version for each phone you sign in on, so we can send push notifications. Community notifications are off by default for under-18s.
• Diagnostics — crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) and a technical record of each recording (app version, camera orientation, timing and analysis statistics) so we can fix problems.
• Location (optional) — the Home screen can show local running conditions. If you allow it, your approximate location is used to fetch a forecast from Open-Meteo and a place name from BigDataCloud. The coordinates are not tied to your identity and are not stored on our servers.

Run videos (optional)

You can choose to have the video of each scored run saved so you and your coach can replay it from My Sessions. This is off unless you switch it on at sign-up or in Settings → Privacy:

• Private — a saved run video, and the still frame taken from it, are visible only to you and the coaching team. Never public.
• Short-lived — saved run videos are deleted after 90 days. The skeleton data is kept so your replay still works.
• In your control — turn saving off, delete all saved videos, or delete any single run at any time in the app.
• Always a fallback — with saving off, runs are replayed as an animated skeleton drawn from the measurements, with no video stored.

Leaderboards and what other athletes see

Leaderboards, the community feed and challenges show your first name, surname initial and age group. Your school is never shown. From 18 you can choose in Settings to show your full name and school instead.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your data to anyone.
• Sponsor messages are never chosen from your data. A free account sees a short sponsor message after each run. It is the same for everyone in your country (an advertiser may choose which countries an ad runs in, and your phone's country setting decides that), and it is never chosen from anything else about you: no profiling, and nothing about you is shared with the advertiser. We record that an ad was shown and whether it was tapped, against a one-way code for your account rather than your name, so an advertiser can be billed honestly. A membership removes the messages.
• We do not upload your sprint video unless you have switched run-video saving on or you choose to send a clip to a coach.

Measuring our own adverts

We advertise the app on Facebook and Instagram. To know which of those adverts bring people to the app, the app tells Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) a few things: that the app was opened, that an account was set up (and whether with Apple, Google or email), that a membership was bought (the product and its price), that a run was scored, and that a sponsor message was shared. None of these carries your name, email, age, school, runs, scores or videos.

Your phone's advertising identifier goes with them only when you allow it. On iPhone, only if you choose to allow tracking when the app asks; if you do not, Meta gets no identifier. On Android, only once your account is set up and you are confirmed as 13 or over; you can reset or delete the identifier at any time in your phone's settings. Meta uses this to measure and improve our advertising, under its own privacy policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy).

Where your data lives

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Google Cloud). We use these providers as processors: Google Firebase (sign-in, storage, notifications, crash reports), Anthropic (run scoring and feedback), Mailgun (email), Open-Meteo and BigDataCloud (weather and place name, coordinates only), Printful (delivery name and address for printed shop items), and Apple's App Store and Google Play (membership payments). None of them uses your data for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account exists, except run videos (90 days) and review videos (365 days). Delete your account at any time in Settings → Manage account → Delete my account: this permanently removes your profile, date of birth, run history and measurements, saved videos and stills, membership records, notification tokens, challenges, review videos and your coaching messages, and removes your sign-in. Posts and comments you made in the community stay, shown under your leaderboard name. You can also ask us to delete your account by email — see Delete your account.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you (or your parent or guardian) may ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date above.
